The results from Week 10 are now posted.
The high averages have now been added to the bottom of the League Standings (requested by Maurice Baum…that was before he bowled this week!)
There are only two more weeks of bowling before a two week break in the schedule until the New Year.
Please remember that all postponements must be played before Position Round on the 20th January 2009.
The Tuesday night before Position Round (13th Jan) has been set aside for these postponements to be played, but please remember that some teams have two matches to catch up. If you need any help arranging them, please speak to Paul.
Last weekend, five of the team that has been selected for Maccabiah in 2009 got together to bowl in the Pepsi Fives, a national tournament held in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
The team finished 7th out of 22 teams on a scratch basis, which was a good result, as it was the first time bowling together as a team. In the five man team event, the overall average was 190 – which was particularly pleasing for the team, as it beat the gold medal winning score from both of the last two Maccabiahs.
Scores from the day were as follows:
Doubles
Michael Loberman 202, 174, 202 (578)
Paul Loberman 219, 249, 227 (695)
Trios
Gary Ellis 208, 199, 202 (609)
Tony Sharpstone 171, 140, 131 (442)
Jack Nesbit 188, 192, 139 (519)
Team
Jack Nesbit 155, 221, 147 (523)
Gary Ellis 220, 184, 229 (633)
Tony Sharpstone 211, 148, 156 (515)
Michael Loberman 212, 177, 186 (575)
Paul Loberman 197, 226, 190 (613)
The team are looking to bowl in another couple of tournaments before heading out to Israel, and are confident that their preparation will gain them valuable experience and see them return from Israel with many medals.

The final round of trials for the 2009 Maccabiah Games took place on 14th September about 100 miles north of London at the Lakeside Superbowl, Nuneaton.
Paul Loberman maintained his top spot in the overall trials standings with a record total of 1870 (a 233 average). Paul led his brother Michael by 42 pins prior to the day’s bowling, and the battle for the bragging rights in the Loberman family went back and forth in the first few games, with Michael starting the day rolling a superb 257 game to wipe the deficit out straight away. In game 3, Paul started to haul the pins back on his brother, shooting consecutive games of 228, 237, 259, 268, 247, and 224 to record the record total pinfall.
Michael continued his good form ending the day with games of 231 and 246 to record a 1746 total (218 average), his best performance of the trials too. Gary Ellis made it a trio of personal bests in these trials rolling 1693 (211 average).
After a slow start to the day, Jack Nesbit bowled steadily and consistently, averaging 198 to secure the final automatic place in the team for the 2009 Maccabiah Games.
High game of the day was a 268 from Paul Loberman.
Both the scores from this round and the final overall scores, AND the team for the Maccabiah Games 2009 can be found on the Maccabiah 2009 Trials page (link on the right).
A very succesful turn out for the first week of the new Maccabi Bowling League. Some good bowling all round and it was nice to see so many familiar faces.

A report has been published in the London Jewish News this week and both a report and a great set of photos can be found on the Totally Jewish website.
