We wish them all good luck and good bowling in Rome.

Preparations for Team England to participate in the Maccabi European Games 2007 which will take place in Rome, Italy in July 2007 have begun in earnest. The eight day long Games is the European version of the Maccabiah and will see over thirty countries participate in many different sports. Team England are expecting to send their largest ever delegation of over 200 competitors, managers, coaches, medical staff and management team.

We have been sending a bowling team to the European Maccabi Games for over 20 years and have always come home with medals. In 2007, we will send 6 bowlers to compete in Rome.

The Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling tournament in April was the first qualifying session. There will be further qualification sessions held in three different bowling centres between now and January 2007, after which the team will be selected on an average based system.

Dates and Venues for qualifiers (subject to confirmation)
Starting with the Maccabi Tournament in April, there will be a total of nine qualifying sessions (one per month from June) until January 2007.
23rd April – Airport
4th June – Dunstable
16th July – Stirchley
13th August – Dunstable
8th October – Airport (CANCELLED)
29th October – Airport (NEW VENUE)
19th November – Stirchley
3rd December – Airport
21st January – Airport (this session replaces Dunstable due to no lane availability there during January)
28th January – Stirchley
The team must be selected and confirmed by the end of January 2007.

Qualification Criteria
In order to be considered for the Maccabi Tenpin Bowling Team for the EMG 2007, bowlers must:
• Complete a European Maccabi Games application form and pay a non-refundable £10 European Maccabi Games registration fee prior to their third qualifying session.
• Play at least four out of the nine sessions (a minimum of 29 games).
• Play in at least two different bowling centres.

How to qualify for the European Maccabi Tenpin Bowling team
At the end of all the qualifying sessions, each bowler’s highest four scores from the sessions will be taken. These four highest scores must be taken from at least two bowling centres, and no more than two scores from any one centre can be taken.

What this means is, you cannot take three scores from one centre and one from another centre to make up the four scores. However, you can take two from one centre and one from each of the other two centres.
It also means that averages can be calculated over 29 games (if the Maccabi Tournament is included in the four sessions) or 32 games (if the Maccabi tournament is excluded).

The top 5 bowlers on overall average from their best four qualifying sessions will be selected for the Tenpin Bowling Team for next year’s EMG. Should any of the top five bowlers not take up their place on the team, their position will be offered to the bowler with the next highest average, and so on…The five bowlers qualifying by highest averages, together with the Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling Committee will then form the “selection committee” to democratically vote for the sixth and final member of the team – only one player can be elected by the selection committee in this way.

General principles for qualification.
• All bowlers must complete an EMG 2007 application form and pay the £10 registration fee to Maccabi GB.
• There will be five minutes practice before the start of the first game, and no further practice before any other games.
• A BTBA sanction will be sought for all future sessions and non-BTBA members must pay a daily fee at each session – BTBA membership is available to everyone.
• All bowlers should confirm entry to each qualifying session at least three weeks in advance (in order for the committee to confirm final lane numbers to the venues.)
• All bowlers must confirm their interest in the European Maccabi Games prior to bowling in their first trial after 1st July 2006.
• All entrants to confirm that they are aware of the dates and published cost for the EMG 2007 before bowling in their first trials, and that should they be selected, that they expect to be able to take their place in the team.
• Cost per qualifier will be set at £25 to cover lineage costs (and where sanctioned 20p BTBA Team England fund)
• A minimum of eight bowlers is required for a qualifier to be held.
• All results will be on the Maccabi Bowling website (www.maccabibowling.com) within 7 days of each session. Please note that the cost for sending a bowler to Rome will be £1100 (which includes all travel, accommodation, meals and events). The Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling Committee is already planning fund raising to reduce this cost considerably for the bowlers. It is not anticipated that bowlers will have to pay the full amount. We look forward to seeing you at the qualifiers and wish you good luck and good bowling.
Kind regards

The Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling Committee.
